A Petition to Decide Parentage is used to begin the process of determining who the father is. Have your documents prepared for King County to establish parentage. When establishing parentage, there are three issues possibly resolved.
First, they establish that the father is the father. Second, child support is most often addressed and is the primary reason for bringing the establishing petition. Third and often left out is the parenting plan, which can designate either parent as the custodial parent and allocates visitation (parenting time) to a parent. Decision making and such can also be addressed to in a parenting plan, but not in a residential schedule.
If there has already been an acknowledgment of paternity but not a court order, you will have other options to get a parenting plan or child support with the help of an unmarried parents paralegal.
